A Chrome extension for Chess.com

Pause the streak.
Play the next game on purpose.

Chess Cooldown adds a short reflection and a cooling-off period after each rated live game—so one result does not automatically become five more.

How it works

  1. Finish a rated live game.Chess Cooldown waits until Chess.com shows the game-over result.
  2. Write one line.A brief reflection is required before the timer starts.
  3. Take a breath. The default cooldown is 2 minutes after a loss and 30 seconds after a win or draw.

You can adjust cooldowns, set an optional daily rated-game cap, skip a cooldown with the skip recorded, and export your local reflection log as JSON.

Deliberately limited

It notices that a rated live game ended. That is all it needs to know.

  • Does not read the board, moves, notation, positions, evaluation, or clock
  • Does not use an engine or provide game assistance
  • Does not click, submit, or play anything on Chess.com
  • Does not make network requests or use remote code
  • Does not use cookies, credentials, analytics, ads, or trackers
  • Stores data only in chrome.storage.local, unless you export your JSON log

Private by design

Your reflections stay on your device.

The developer cannot access them. Chess Cooldown has no server and sends nothing to analytics, advertisers, or other third parties.
